21: Best Blackjack Movie So Far
Poker is used over and over in different movies, yet Blackjack has a lot of stories to tell as well. 21, released in 2008, is definitely one Blackjack movie you must see. The movie is actually based on a true story of MIT Team, a team of mathematicians and engineers trying to take down casinos using their card counting techniques. If you think this movie and the techniques used in it too good to be true, than you should consider reading “Bringing Down the House” written by Ben Mezrich, one of the members of the MIT Team.
Although the movie is not as accurate as the book in depicting what the MIT Team had accomplished, it is actually pretty dramatic and covers most of the aspects correctly. Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, Aaron Yoo, Liza Lapira, and Jacob Pitts did a great job playing the role of each MIT Team member and depicting several aspects of card counting, including using some of the Blackjack terms we all know and love.
The story of MIT Team is a huge part of this movie, and it is a very interesting subject to discuss on its own. In the 1990’s, the MIT Team successfully bring down the house and won an estimated $4,000,000 of cash from playing Blackjack. Griffin Investigation Company, which works for casinos all over the world, was onto them after they discover the fact that some of the casinos’ losses were made in Blackjack tables played by suspicious players. Watch the movie and see how card counting can overturn house advantage completely.
